South Africa Declares Readiness for Africas Biggest Aerospace and Defence Showcase

South Africa has declared itself ready to host the 13th biennial Africa Aerospace and Defence trade exhibition and airshow, as the country marks 100 days to go before one of the continent's most important aerospace, aviation and defence events takes place. The showcase is scheduled for 16 to 20 September 2026 at Air Force Base Waterkloof, and is expected to bring together government representatives, defence leaders, manufacturers, innovators, investors and aviation enthusiasts from across the world. Exhibition Director Nakedi Phasha said extensive preparations are already underway, with organisers expecting no fewer than 300 exhibitors from more than 40 countries, while more than 200 official delegations have been invited and about 100 confirmed delegations from 100 countries are being targeted. The event will run over five days, with the first three days reserved for trade-focused engagements, conferences and industry networking. These sessions are expected to create space for global and regional stakeholders to discuss aerospace technology, aviation systems, defence capability, unmanned aerial technology, space innovation, investment partnerships and industrial collaboration. According to Phasha, the exhibition will include a dedicated space hub, demonstrations of unmanned aerial technology, and displays covering the three defence services: air, land and sea. This gives the event a wider strategic purpose than a traditional airshow, positioning it as a platform where South Africa can showcase technical capability, attract partnerships and strengthen its role in the global aerospace and defence economy. The final two days of the event will be opened to the public, with organisers expecting more than 60 000 people to pass through the air force base during the showcase. This public component is expected to give ordinary South Africans, students, aviation enthusiasts and families an opportunity to experience aircraft displays, technology demonstrations and defence-sector innovation up close.
