President Cyril Ramaphosa has expressed deep sorrow following a violent weekend on the Cape Flats, where multiple incidents claimed 26 lives since Friday, 19 January 2026. The President extended his deepest condolences to the families and communities affected by the unrest. He urged strengthened law enforcement, increased police visibility, and close cooperation between communities and the South African Police Service to reduce criminal activity.Government officials confirmed that short-term interventions will continue alongside long-term socio-economic programs aimed at addressing underlying causes of violence in the area.
