The Mozal Aluminium Smelter was established in Mozambique in July 1998 by a consortium of investor companies with a budget of US$2 billion. As the first large foreign direct investment in Mozambique, Mozal increased the international awareness of Mozambique within the business community and reduced perception of the risk of investing in the country
